Sand, Stone & Coal

As part of my time off I thought I would pay a visit Doncaster on Friday.  It’s been a few years since I have been there and although the freight is a bit slower than it used to be the variety of passenger liveries passing through make for a colourful day.  I went with an open outlook on the day, with no targets that I had never photographed before expected through the station.  The journey up was okay except for the late running connection which meant I gained an extra change at Sheffield, as well at Tamworth and Derby.  At Derby the sound of class 20s ticking over greeted my ears.  This allowed me to get some better shots of the KBA barrier wagons, although I was pretty much shooting into the sun.  Can’t win everything. meh.

The four class 20s that are allocated to this Underground stock move looked and sounded great.

On arrival at Doncaster I was pleasantly surprised to find some wagons on site that I have been trying to get out and photograph.  The PGA REDA series. so scratch another target knocked off, though I will still try and persuade the other half that a Sunday drive is still in order to go after these.

Another set of wagons that I wanted to get some more pictures of were the HYAs/IIAsin use with GBRf on their coal flows.  The last set of wagons I was after on this trip were some more photographs of the PAA WBB series wagons.  The only time I have photographed these wagons was through the 1st class window of a Mk4 back in 2007.  6E84 08:20 Middleton Towers to Barnby Dun duly arrived at Doncaster and sat in the centre road for a few minutes.  Thank you very much.
