Night Shift Locos – Classic Traction

You may have noticed the lack of updates recently.  This has been down to me being slightly greedy with the overtime and doing ten night shifts on the trot.  The downside of doing this means that wagon photography goes out the window.   The upside is the chance to get quite a few locomotive images and a fair amount of containers as the inter-modals do a crew change in the station.  Also coming through the station at night are the nuclear flask trains from Sizewell and Dungeness.  The trains come up from the sites to Willesden Brent Yard whereupon they restart up to Crewe as 6K51 21:53 Willesden Brent to Crewe.

Subject to work conditions I tried to photograph this every night.  I failed.  Not one night did I get a shot I was happy with. My normal issue seemed to be pressing the shutter release too early.   What also never helped was having the shot set up, the train approaching, then the driver opening up from 100 feet away and building up their speed.  Don’t get me wrong, a bit of 20 or 37 thrash sounds great through the station but not when I want the train to be going as slow as possible.  Argh!  Again, I wouldn’t mind but every time I have decided to video the train, the driver has come through as slow as a snail, and never opened up.  Anyways, enough ranting and on with the show.

Also updated is the class 37 gallery.  This wasn’t our only visit by 37s during the ten days but seeing as I have already used a flask image already there no point in repeating it.

A week of nights did produce some rather classic traction through the station which I was not complaining about.  Though there were times when I had to wave off the photo as work always take the number one slot.  This run of nights were the first ones for me since the clock change which meant different trains once again became available to photograph.

Another classic piece of traction which came through the station was 31 233, this was due to stop in the station in both directions on a test train, so of course I set the camera up ready at which point it decided to come through the station without stopping.  A quick change of settings allowed me to grab some shots but again, they were not the best, oh well.
