Monty goes travelling, Part I

Time away from work for a week.  I was able to persuade the other half that a holiday in the Peak District was an excellent idea, though to do it in style we hired a VW Camper Van from vwretrorentals.  Of course, the trip had to have some element of trains in it.  The other half is rather understanding of my hobby so time was set aide for me to indulge.  We picked up the camper van, which is called Monty by its owner in Bromsgrove and drove from there to Toton Bank, overlooking Toton Yard.

Having the van was a great, it meant I could go off and take photographs whilst the other half chilled out in the back of the van, making use of the facilities, and of course when I returned to the van, a brew up was in order.   I came back from my walk along the bank very happy as I got to photograph some wagons I had not had the chance to point the camera at before.  Whilst at the bottom of the bank photographing the stored class 60s I heard a train moving.  Being out of position I did the mad middle aged runner up the bank to see the Skako Ballast Distribution train at the back of a rake of MHA etc coming through the yard.  More out of breath running and it was time to point the camera.

The above wagons were built in 1982 by Standard Wagon and later converted by Powell Duffryn.  One thing I did like about these wagons were the numerous livery elements on show.  You can have a choice of bright yellow or EWS red, or a mixture of the two.  Some wagons have EWS branding, whilst others have Mainline and to top it off seeping through YDA DR92220 was Network SouthEast branding.

Also in the rake is the generator vehicle for this train, coded in TOPS as VXA.  Sat around at Toton yard in full view with nothing blocking were some other VXA coded generator vans and a VAA.
