Can-tastic

After much talk of a trial run from Rugby to Daventry and thence down to London Euston involving the newly painted 86 701 ‘Orion’ on behalf of some supermarkets we eventually had some movement this week.  On Wednesday the 24th of October 2012 86 701 ‘Orion’ looking rather bright and shiny came out of COLAS Rugby at the head of 4Z56 10:15 COLAS Rugby to Milton Keynes, and return.

The train itself departed from COLAS Rugby then reversed direction in platform 6 of Rugby station where I was able to take the photograph below.  I enjoy doing night shots and some basic astro-photograhpy so seeing a constellation included on a nameplate is a bit of winner for me really.  I suppose the ideal photograph of this loco would be night shot with Orion in the night sky rising behind the loco.

As part of the trial a number of ex Great Western Motorail vans were to be used.  Four of the vehicles have been altered externally with their roofs painted white
