Something old, something even older

Updates have been slow recently as I have been working my way through the images I took in Switzerland during a week long stay in Erstfeld, situated at the base of the Gothard north ramp during October.  Expect a large influx of European images shortly.  To wet your appetite of the coming updates the image below shows locomotive Ce 6/8 II 14270 at night in its role as depot guardian.  Locomotive 14270 was built in 1922, for use on freight trains, being withdrawn from service in 1969, (this being one of the earliest withdrawals of the class) then being utilised as depot guardian at Erstfeld from 1982.  Other members of the class carried on in working service until the mid 1980s.  These locomotives have been nicknamed ‘Crocodiles’ due to their long noses.

Another update this week is thanks to Fotopic coming back online so ex-users can download old images.  When Fotopic ended nearly all of my images were backed up except for a couple of galleries, one of which being my images of the LPG train which used to run through Bournemouth.  In 2005 I was just getting back into trains and found myself on duty at Hamworthy station, working in the Ticket Office when 6W53 08:52 Eastleigh Yard to Furzebrook arrived in the station.  I was able to get some shots of the 2 axle LPG tanks.

Upon arriving at at Furzebrook LPG Terminal it would be loaded with LPG then work 6V29 19:29 Furzebrook to Hallen Marsh, where it would unload.  After that it would form 6O10 03:00 Hallen Marsh to Eastleigh Yard whereupon it would start the rotation again, this traffic stopped in the Autumn of 2005.

Thank you to Mark Rawlinson of Freightmaster for providing the above freight workings.
